Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC) is a file format for lossless audio data compression. Being lossless, FLAC does not remove information from the audio stream, as lossy compression formats such as MP3, AAC, and Vorbis do. FLAC's primary author is Josh Coalson.
FLAC reduces bandwidth and storage requirements without sacrificing the integrity of the audio source. A digital audio recording (such as a CD track) encoded to FLAC can be decompressed into an copy of the audio data. Audio sources encoded to FLAC are typically reduced in size 40 to 50 percent (46% according to their own comparison).
FLAC is suitable for everyday audio playback and archival, with support for tagging, cover art and fast seeking. FLAC's free and open source royalty-free nature makes it well-supported by many software applications, but FLAC playback support in portable audio devices and dedicated audio systems is limited at this time.
I purchased "Spirit" on its first day of and it has got a lot of play. When I first heard that the album was being re-issued I automatically thought what many did - "What a cheap way to get more money". However, this album re-release is very justified, unlike other albums that get re-released this one is worthy of such a as it contains multiple extras and isn't overpriced at all. This CD includes the single mixes of "Better in Time" and "Footprints In The Sand" along with the bonus tracks "Misses Glass", "Forgive Me", and "Run". Also included is a DVD featuring all of Leona's musicmore… videos to date (everything up to "Forgive Me"). The inclusion of a stunning studio version of her popular cover of Snow Patrols "Run" is worth the full price of the CD alone, it is truly beautiful and no doubt will do well in the charts.
Considering how strong a debut album "Spirit" was when it first came out, this re-issue takes what was a fantastic album and makes it sublime. If you already own the original version of "Spirit" I would highly recommend purchasing this - I say this as a person who never usually "double dips" (buying multiple versions of the 'same' thing). The DVD included as well just adds to the value you get for such a great talent and such a stunning voice.
